I was finally able to trace it to Creative Cloud trying to update. I could ‘cancel’ but around the first of every month the computer would turn into an unusable piece of junk, requiring multiple reboots some of which took 20 minutes to get it back on track. It seemed innocuous enough at first but then it started showing popup windows requesting updates. That’s when Creative Cloud showed up in the upper right near the wifi, time and date, etc.
But what I do know is that the main user installed either Photoshop Elements or Photoshop either as a trial or for purchase.

I just maintain it with security, browser, and other software updates. I don’t usually use the iMAC I referred to.
